  • Emphasis of this session is on the workbook, but also academic writing
  • Bring yourself into the writing.
    • Not neutral
    • Is transparent writing, author clearly in the text
  • Reclaim writing from the academics, soul back in the writing, less technical, creative journey from place of knowing into the unknown, beyond the familiar and habitual, step into new ways of being, vulnerable and deskilled.
  • Writing is difficult because of the emotional blocks we bring to it (usually from school)
  • Patience and frustration that the writing is not appearing how it should be, critic telling you that you should give up. Difficult. Step past the critic, allow it to be vague and woolly, it gets clearer over time, it’s a journey. Workbook is great opportunity to experiment.
  • The not taking will help become the essay. Capture experiences. Link up to the essay.
  • Write with critical thinking, referencing format,
    • Not just describe the map
    • Use tutor in prep!
  • Notice experience and validate ideas
  • Try to have a synthesis of body feelings and mind
    • To reflect
    • All equally important
    • Writing is the workshop/medium to do that
  • Need to have a conceptual space to test out the assumptions of who you are
    • Allows you to step into your potential
    • Permission
    • Creative meaningfulness
    • Seeing the difference between thinking and imagining, not interpreting images
  • Journaling - Way of listening to myself
  • Write succinctly and beautifully
    • Don’t write in a couple of days
    • Make it a piece of art
  • Resistance is a sign of breaking frame
    • But don’t get lost in it
  • Grab people, but you are not marked on this, you are marked on how reflective it is.

Techniques

  • Spontaneous writing
    • Continuing movement, no editing
    • Tap into unconscious process

Exercise

  • As a spiritual person I am…

  • In relation to the environment, always responding and listening and reflecting and impressing on the arena, my sprit is my connection with what I don’t see, my extended self, as part of the whole, unity with everything. Who am I, maybe the boundaries of myself becomes quite blurred, I am the culture as well as being influenced by it in a jumbled and indistinguishable boundary. Sprit includes the unknown, but only because you are more than your awareness. It still takes in the relationship of the known and unconscious self and inherited subconscious behaviours mixed with the know and unknown behaviours of culture and the general …..

  • As a sexual person I am…..

  • Someone who has completed his species survival task, have some body behaviour that lean toward consumption, but am also quite bored and lonely in this domain. Some thoughts come in, but there is a lot of resistance towards letting myself explore this, due to feeling of disappointment and maybe even disgust. What is the body anyway other than a tool to be in the universe, a bridge, oh quite a lot then! So why would I want to be more sexual, or is that the right question. Maybe what in this domain would be a good idea to keep in focus, what is it about the physical touch and joining of two people in a physical way going to provide that would bring with it more benefit into the world, to me as an individual and the universe

    • Every time my wife asked me about my day I would feel terribly insecure like an unsaid expectation and disappointment to our coming together. I had learnt from my experience as a child where I… also as a dad and my expectation on my son’s performance as a participant in his class, that what appeared to dominate any conflicting relationship was what I would call a “SuperBitch” subpersonality, like a sergeant major with a strict agenda and no patience. By being able to disidentify with the situation and see the larger picture, I was able to see that this stuck behaviour served me well when I was…. But now is somewhat mismatched with the situation and therefore more destructive than beneficial. By changing …..

Personal Feedback 1

Which ideas have you found the most helpful, meaningful or challenging? Which exercises?
Covering transparent writing was very helpful. I realise I was going to struggle visualising how to write in a personal form as opposed to the academic form that I am trained to do. The exercise of filling in the gaps highlighted this as I found myself very slow to begin with. Once I discovered a pattern I was able to smash something out in time. However, further reflection from hearing other people’s examples helped me understand that I’m going to have to walk into the essay writing knowing that I will need to give it a few drafts.
What has been the high point or major learning of this course for you?
I loved mulling over the learning styles and their strengths and weaknesses. I could see myself in all of these groups, but there were some definite strong contenders. It made me laugh so see it in this way along with the weakness side effects. I look forward to further reflection on this and I dive into my writing.
What has been the quality of the conceptual content? Its organisation? Continuity? Presentation? Clarity?
I thought that plenty of good content was provided. I especially enjoyed hearing from the students that had failed the essay. It was great to hear their thought processes and self-deception. There seemed a lot of hyped confusion near the end of the course which was unnecessary and could have been managed more effectively. However, it looked like the students that required the level of accuracy to overcome their confusion seemed satisfied, so it wasn’t too bad, just a little boring.
Has there been anything missing from the course or anything you would have liked more of given the time limits? Was there anything which did not work for you or which could have worked more effectively if changed?
I would have loved some more examples of the style of writing we are to produce as I remain feeling like I will be walking into the woods with this one. However, I haven’t started yet, so I might not need it. There is plenty of time and room for checking, and it has all been laid out well, so I feel confident enough.
What comments do you have about the course trainer(s) and assistants? How was your relationship with the trainer(s)?
Fine. I believe he could have been more prepared with the handbook ready and the slides he was presenting.

Personal Feedback 2

Which ideas have you found the most helpful, meaningful or challenging? Which exercises?
It was great to look into the essay requirements in more detail so I can cross reference what I am writing with the advised method and create a further beneficial experience.
What has been the high point or major learning of this course for you?
Becoming aware of the diverse character of essay writing from the group as we examined individual essays allowed me realise my own character of writing with its strengths and weaknesses.
What has been the quality of the conceptual content? Its organisation? Continuity? Presentation? Clarity?
It was short, informative and fun.
Has there been anything missing from the course or anything you would have liked more of given the time limits? Was there anything which did not work for you or which could have worked more effectively if changed?
Everything was beneficial. I feel ready to continue with the essay and enjoy it.
What comments do you have about the course trainer(s) and assistants? How was your relationship with the trainer(s)?
All good.
